EID installs the entire communications system on the Portuguese Navy’s new vessel
- The NRP D. João II is a multi-purpose naval platform;
- With the capability to operate unmanned equipment, it is becoming known as the National Navy’s first drone carrier;
- EID is installing the entire C4I (Communications, Command, Control, Computers and Intelligence) solution, using the latest Integrated Communications Control System 7 (ICCS7).
EID, the Portuguese company specialising in the development of advanced C4I communication systems for defence, will implement all networked communications systems and subsystems on the NRP D. João II, the Portuguese Navy’s new vessel, which was launched on 7 April at the Damen Shipyards Galati shipyard in Romania.
The ceremony marked a significant milestone in the development of this new multi-purpose naval platform, as highlighted by the Portuguese Navy in its official statement on the matter, available here.
Known as the Portuguese Navy’s first drone carrier, the vessel is a multi-purpose naval platform capable of operating unmanned equipment, thus representing a new generation of ships designed to carry out a wide range of missions, including maritime surveillance, humanitarian support, scientific research and environmental monitoring.
EID installs the entire network system and ICCS7 on a Portuguese Navy vessel for the first time
EID’s long-standing and well-established partnership with the Portuguese Navy has now resulted in the company installing the entire C4I (Communications, Command, Control, Computers and Intelligence) solution on a Portuguese Navy vessel for the first time, utilising the latest Integrated Communications Control System 7 (ICCS7).
The ICCS7 ensures an advanced, secure and highly resilient technological environment. The system integrates multiple domains, with different levels of security classification, complying with national and NATO requirements.
The NRP D. João II represents a new generation of Multi-Purpose Vessels (MPVs), designed to undertake a wide range of missions, including maritime surveillance, humanitarian support, scientific research and environmental monitoring.
“The integration, for the first time, of the ICCS7 represents a strategic milestone for EID and demonstrates our ability to innovate and respond to the most demanding operational challenges. This project reflects our ongoing commitment to the Portuguese Navy, through advanced technological solutions that enhance the effectiveness, interoperability and safety of naval operations”, says Vasco Lobo, Board Executive and CFO of EID.
This project reinforces EID’s position as a strategic technology partner of the Portuguese Navy and highlights the national industry’s capacity to develop and integrate advanced solutions for next-generation naval platforms.
