EID Provides Communications Systems to the Portuguese Navy in €42 Million Contract
EID, a Portuguese company specialising in the development of advanced C4i communication systems for defence, will provide the Portuguese Navy with new technological capabilities under the Integrated Communications Systems (ICS) and Networks programme, in an investment of €42.3 million, financed through the Military Programming Law.
The contract, valid between 2026 and 2031, covers the supply and implementation of a technological solution that will enable the centralised management and control of internal and external communications on board Portuguese Navy vessels. This technology will be installed on naval platforms of high operational importance, including the new 3rd series Ocean Patrol Vessels (OPV) and Fleet Replenishment Vessels (FRV+), amongst other units.
The ICS integrates all communications subsystems and ensures high levels of automation, efficiency and reliability, as well as full compliance with NATO and European Union requirements and standards. This interoperability ensures the secure sharing of information and the full integration of Portuguese naval assets in joint, combined and multinational operations.
The adoption of a common integrated system reduces equipment diversity and simplifies support, maintenance and training processes for operators and technicians.
