Portuguese defence communications specialist EID has unveiled a new Tactical Integrated Communication System (TICS) designed for military vehicles and shelters, reinforcing its role as a key partner in modernizing the Portuguese Army’s tactical communications infrastructure.
This new TerraNEX TICS builds on EID’s decades-long collaboration with the Portuguese Army, who deployed the previous generation across various vehicle fleets. The company’s in-depth operational experience has been instrumental in developing this latest system.
Modular and highly adaptable, the system acts as a core communications hub within vehicles or shelters and can be expanded with various subsystems such as network management tools, audio controllers, and IP-based services. The new TerraNEX TICS enhances in-vehicle coordination, system integration, and secure communications in high-mobility scenarios.
During the latest Portuguese Army ARTEX (ARmy Technological EXperimentation), EID has already conducted operational test and validated the concepts of this new TerraNEX TICS on a PandurII 8×8 and a M577 APC vehicle offering secure, robust and real-time simultaneous voice & data communications from the dismounted soldiers up to the HQ were the complete COP (Common Operational Picture) was shared.
The Portuguese Army has confirmed plans to upgrade and newly procure vehicles, as part of an ongoing modernization effort aimed at improving mission readiness and battlefield connectivity and EID’s new TICS is ideally positioned to support this modernization effort thanks to its technical maturity and compatibility with modern battlefield requirements aligned with NATO standards including tactical deployed PCN (Protected Core Network) implementation in line with NATO FMN (Federated Mission Network) spirals.
“Our new Tactical Integrated Communication System is a product of years of collaboration and innovation,” said Martin Bennett CEO of EID. “It represents not only a technical leap forward but also a reaffirmation of our trusted partnership with the Portuguese Armed Forces.”
With this release, EID positions itself to extend its leadership in military communication systems, both domestically and in international markets seeking proven, scalable solutions.
EID offer in this field is more than supplying equipment’s; EID offers a network concept that follows FMN (1) standards and principles enabling real-time collaboration across different forces and operations on short notice, with minimal preparation of people and enhanced security.
