EID has been awarded the Pr\u00e9mio Nacional de Inova\u00e7\u00e3o 2026<\/a>. The winning project is the ICCS7, EID’s latest generation Integrated Communications Control System, designed for naval platforms operating in the most demanding environments.<\/p>\n

What is the Pr\u00e9mio Nacional de Inova\u00e7\u00e3o?<\/h3>\n

Now in its fourth edition, the Pr\u00e9mio Nacional de Inova\u00e7\u00e3o (PNI) is one of the most prestigious innovation awards in Portugal, recognising organisations and projects that are transforming the country through technology, creativity and strategic vision. Organised in partnership between Jornal de Neg\u00f3cios<\/a>, Banco BPI<\/a> e Claranet Portugal<\/a>, the award spans ten sectors of activity and five technology subcategories, bringing together the most innovative projects across the entire Portuguese economy.<\/p>\n

The award ceremony of this fourth edition took place on 9 July 2026 at Nova SBE, Campus de Carcavelos, in an event that gathered business leaders, academics and specialists to celebrate talent and innovation in Portugal. Being selected as a winner in this context, alongside projects from all sectors of the Portuguese economy, is a distinction that goes beyond the defence and security industry. It places EID among the most innovative organisations in Portugal.<\/p>\n

The ICCS7, or Integrated Communications Control System 7, is EID’s most advanced communications management system for naval platforms. Developed over several years of focused research and development, it represents the convergence of EID’s decades of operational experience with the most current communication technologies available.<\/p>\n

The system is designed to operate in highly demanding environments, where reliability, interoperability and precision are not optional but essential. It integrates multiple communication channels and protocols into a single, intuitive interface, allowing operators to manage complex naval communication networks with efficiency and confidence.<\/p>\n

The ICCS7 was developed in close collaboration with the Portuguese Navy, whose operational knowledge and real-world requirements were central to shaping the system throughout its development. This partnership between industry and armed forces is precisely what makes the project stand out: it is not a technology developed in a laboratory and then offered to the market. It is a solution built from the inside out, starting from the actual needs of the people who will depend on it.<\/p>\n

What this recognition means for EID<\/h3>\n

Winning the Pr\u00e9mio Nacional de Inova\u00e7\u00e3o is a recognition of what EID’s multidisciplinary teams have built and what it stands for. EID’s full name, Empresa de Investiga\u00e7\u00e3o e Desenvolvimento de Electr\u00f3nica, carries the word investigation and development at its core. Winning an innovation award is, in that sense, a recognition of what the company was built to do.<\/p>\n

The ICCS7 is part of a broader trajectory of innovation at EID, one that encompasses next generation communications, IP networking, interoperability and, on the horizon, the integration of artificial intelligence into defence communications systems.<\/p>\n
