TWH-101 Tactical Wireless Headset

TWH-101 Tactical Wireless Headset
TWH-101 Tactical Wireless Headset

The compact Tactical Wireless Headset system ensures a full duplex and high quality audio link between the soldier deployed on the field and the communications equipment integrated in an armoured vehicle, jeep or tent. The system is compatible with a large variety of headsets and adaptation services are available upon request; the system is fully compatible with the ICC-201 IP Intercom system, ICC-251 Compact Digital Intercom System and the PRC-525 Combat Net Radio.

The tactical wireless system is composed of two items: the Wireless Gateway and the Headset Wireless Unit (Slave). The first connects and acts as a gateway to the vehicle communications equipment, in place of the standard, wired helmet/headset. The second unit is a portable, battery-operated headset that ensures reliable and seamless connection to the communications equipment and, at the same time, the soldier mobility outside the vehicle up to 300m.

The concept of the Wireless Headset system is optimized for wireless transmission of full duplex, high-quality audio voice. It operates on the 2.4GHz ISM band (not Bluetooth) using a bandwidth-efficient spread-spectrum modulation format. The excellent robustness and co-location performance is achieved using buffering, retransmission, error concealment techniques and network synchronisation. To enable a full featured integration with vehicular intercom systems, the TWH-101 supports internal keying and PTT signalling over the air; the first is used to communicate to the vehicle crew members and the latter to communicate over the radio equipments installed on-board the vehicle. Several dismounted soldiers can share the access to the vehicle communications facilities and also communicate among themselves.
